Without cause-level classification, leadership could see the financial and production impact of scrap but had limited ability to identify recurring operational issues or determine which defects were contributing most heavily to losses. Causes could range from color and branding defects to incomplete parts and other production-related issues. The plant needed a simple way to capture this operational context directly from the production floor without disrupting manufacturing activity. --- ## Solution I designed and developed a lightweight iPad-based application that complemented the existing JDE scrap accounting process rather than replacing it. Production employees used the application to quickly record the location, quantity, and cause associated with scrap as it occurred. The workflow was intentionally designed for rapid data capture in a manufacturing environment, minimizing the effort required from production personnel while still collecting the information needed for meaningful analysis. Each entry was written to a centralized data source and made available through Power BI. This created a categorized view of production scrap that could be analyzed alongside the total scrap amounts already tracked through JDE. Leadership and maintenance teams used Power BI reporting to identify leading causes of scrap, review recurring production issues, and support conversations around operational improvement. Instead of seeing scrap only as an aggregate total, the plant could analyze what was driving that scrap and focus attention on the most significant contributing factors. By complementing JDE with cause-level production data, the solution turned existing scrap accounting into a more actionable source of manufacturing intelligence. --- ## My Contribution I designed and built the solution end to end, from understanding the operational need through application development and reporting. I developed the Power App used on the manufacturing floor, designed the supporting data structure, implemented the Power Automate components, and built the Power BI reporting used by leadership and maintenance. The solution was designed specifically for fast iPad-based entry in a production environment while still producing structured data suitable for operational analysis and continuous improvement.
