Nonconforming Part & Process Reporting
Quality Management
Synopsis
- Business Challenge: Establish a consistent enterprise process for reporting and resolving manufacturing nonconformances while creating usable quality data across seven manufacturing facilities.
- Solution: Power Platform application for structured quality-event reporting, classification, traceability, multi-stage disposition, automated notifications, permanent records, and Power BI-ready data.
- Business Impact: Standardized nonconformance reporting across all seven sites and turned individual quality events into searchable, analyzable business intelligence used in daily plant leadership reviews and national quality improvement efforts.
- My Contribution: Led discovery, process definition, application architecture, workflow and disposition design, data modeling, notification automation, enterprise deployment, and ongoing refinement.
Business Challenge
Prior to implementation, nonconformance reporting either did not exist or relied on a relatively new paper-based process at a single manufacturing facility. Without a standardized enterprise workflow, manufacturing quality events were documented inconsistently, making it difficult to establish accountability, maintain permanent records, or share information across manufacturing sites.
The paper-based process also prevented meaningful analysis of quality data. Leadership had no practical way to identify recurring issues, compare performance between facilities, monitor manufacturing trends, or leverage quality events to drive operational improvements across the organization.
Solution
The Nonconforming Part & Process Reporting application replaced isolated paper processes with a standardized enterprise workflow deployed across all manufacturing facilities. Quality Technicians documented quality events involving manufactured parts, production processes, materials, and equipment through a structured digital reporting process that guided each investigation from initial discovery through final disposition.
Each report captured comprehensive operational information including part details, material traceability, machine conditions, process settings, classification data, photographs, inspection findings, and supporting documentation. Automated notifications immediately alerted local manufacturing leadership when a new NCP was submitted, while additional notifications were generated upon disposition or escalated to National Quality when the reported root cause warranted broader organizational awareness.
The application supported a multi-stage disposition workflow jointly managed by Quality and Production leadership. Every completed NCP became a permanent quality record while the underlying data model was specifically designed to support enterprise Power BI reporting and long-term quality analytics.

Business Impact
The application established Digital NCP as the required quality event reporting process across all seven manufacturing facilities, replacing fragmented paper documentation with a standardized enterprise workflow. Every quality event became traceable, searchable, and permanently available for operational reporting, auditing, and historical analysis.
Power BI dashboards became the primary method for monitoring manufacturing quality at both the local and national level. Previous-day and overnight nonconformances became part of daily production leadership meetings, providing immediate visibility into manufacturing issues and supporting timely operational decisions. National Quality used aggregated reporting to identify recurring trends, compare quality performance across facilities, and drive process improvements throughout the organization.
By combining standardized data collection with enterprise analytics, the application transformed individual quality events into actionable business intelligence that supported both day-to-day manufacturing operations and long-term continuous improvement initiatives.
My Contribution
I led the Digital NCP initiative from discovery through enterprise deployment, working directly with Quality leadership to define the business process, design the application architecture, and develop the complete Power Platform solution. I designed the end-to-end workflow, implemented the multi-stage disposition process, modeled the supporting data architecture, and developed the automated notification framework used throughout the application lifecycle.
Particular emphasis was placed on designing a structured data model capable of supporting enterprise reporting and analytics. While Quality leadership continued refining Power BI dashboards over time, the underlying application and data architecture I developed became the foundation for quality reporting used across all manufacturing facilities. Following deployment, I continued working closely with stakeholders to refine the application and support evolving business requirements.
